Sigil stops raiding.

User-Image
After loosing few key players and having troubles recruiting players to meet our expectations on Ragnaros and due to overall bad balance of 10 man raiding scene as a whole, we all decided to stop raiding as a 10 man guild and instead go an easy 25 man route.
Senseless guild is our new home and we got Halfus heroic 25 in our first night with our new friends, which means we are on the right track.

Sigil are Recruiting!

User-Image
Short version:
10 Man Raid Guild
1/12HC (Working Om, Chim, Conclave)
3/4 Days/Week (Mon,Wed,Thu 20:00-23:00, Sat: Varies - Usually morning/afternoon raids)
English, Vent Required
Semi Loot Council

2 Healers (Offspec DPS big Plus, Shaman nice, all considered)
1 Tank (Pala nice, all considered)
2 DPS (Hunter nice)

Longer Version:
After getting back into the swing of things following the Christmas/New Years break we were hit by several cases of real life digging its claws into our roster and have finally hit the point where we need swell the ranks again.

Although we're a solid core of raiders we don't have the roster size we need to consistently field the raid we would like - which is where you come in.

What we are looking for is a few people who are able to offer us a strong commitment to raiding (3 days attendance with 4 days being ideal), and knowledge of their class and current encounters. Gear is less of a concern - if you're raid ready and have the correct attitude that's what interests us the most. Gear is just a bonus which comes with time.

The guild has people from their teens to their thirties, and the atmosphere in raids ranges from deadly serious to light hearteded and full of banter. It's an open floor and everyone is encouraged to speak their mind - this follows along with our loot philosophy (primarily highest roller, but discussions and passing are not uncommon).

As a guild we're very focused on progression, and enjoy the farm content just as much as the endless wipes; getting our faces ground into the dirt by all the big beasties of Azeroth is what keeps us going. Being able to find the strength to push on through a series of quick and brutal wipes is pretty important - especially with the main focus of the guild now being heroic progression.

If you think this sounds like the kind of guild (n guys) you'd be interested in joining then please feel free to apply online from the recruitment link, or contact me or an officer in game for a chat.

Nefarian & Halfus HC Down

User-Image
A most productive day of raiding, though credit belongs to everyone who put in the hours on Nefarian over the last couple of raids (without a doubt the most challenging normal encounter, taking at least 5x as long as any other encounter to beat).

Halfus HC was our first point of call after having some great tries on Thursday (using 3 tanks 3 healers and seeing a 14% wipe), though the intel suggested that maybe something different might work out better, so we started with a brand new strategy.

We used 3 healers (disc disc hpala), 2 tanks (war dk), 1 interrupter (rsham) and 4 dps (mage dk rogue hunter) which is certainly an interesting raid makeup for a 10 man guild. Mybad (our lock) brought his alt priest to provide the smite power we required (and of course loot his lock wanted dropped, c'est la vie) and the setup looked good from the get go.

We did initially start with 2 rogues (instead of rogue mage) but we quickly discovered that interrupting after the roar required the sneaky tricks of mage blink, and so Bablu came to the rescue.

On the pull we released the Scion, Storm & Whelps, and focused Storm (with our mage combusting onto the whelps at the start), Whelps, Scion and finally Time > Halfus (Time released when Storm dies). Considering it was a brand new tactic for us compared to previous tries it was actually pretty robust, and required little iteration from the start of the raid to the kill.

All told I think it was about 15-20 wipes followed by a kill, with things looking pretty solid for the kill. Theres a video from our holy paladin point of view available, as well as our parse for the kill.

Spirits riding high from the heroic kill we moved to Nefarian (who stole 8 hours of our lives last Saturday in return for a 4% wipe followed by a bunch of wipes which never approached that mark again).

Nothing had really changed tactics wise from our previous attempts, we just needed to find that perfect execution and really get some practice in phase 3 (cause you just know you love it when you wipe because people swim in the lava on p2, right?).

After a few of the usual nervous wipes (mostly focused on p2 noobery - p1 was looking much better than last week) we started getting to phase 2, and things were looking productive.

The kill itself has been a long time coming, but I think we've still got work to do to really nail the tactics on this one. Take a look at the video from our holy paladins point of view, or browse the parse on worldoflogs.

The kill really was only possible thanks to the hard work (and many hours) that a whole bunch of us have put in, so thanks to all those who worked on Nef but weren't there for the kill.

Heroic Blackwing Descent awaits!

Council & Cho'Gall Dead

User-Image
The Sigil news team seems to have been inundated with Christmas cheer and forgotten to post news of our latest two kills. Rest assured I will be thoroughly disciplined for my misdemeanours.

We first tried the council on Wednesday, and it was a long and steep learning curve. Highlights included stacking up in p3 (kudos me for inventing that ridiculous tactic - though it did generate a 1.5% wipe), our bear tank standing in Glaciate (whoops, guess nobody told him about the move away bit Wink) and melee generally dancing around like ninjas on fire with their debuff in p1. Oh, and our dearest Altheri being caught in a tug of war between a levitate and earthed debuff - instagib followed Razz

Plenty of room for improvement on the council fight, though as usual once the tactics lined up phase 1 and 2 seemed fairly trivial (that age old art of stopping dps even seemed to work - unlike our first set transitions at 25/40+%...). Phase 3 seemed a little crazy but that seems to be the norm now for a lot of fights (maloriak, chimaeron, al'akir, etc.) - the mind boggles at the heroic possibilities.

Moving swiftly on to Cho'gall - a fight which I thought we'd nail a lot quicker than council (everybody laughed, but look who's laughing now kids!) and we did actually get to grips with him pretty darned fast. Second try was 10% or so, followed by a few debacles with oozes and shadow crashes, then a pretty clean kill in the end.

Damage taken/healing was pretty smooth throughout and despite it only being 9 tries total dps (and tanks/healers) were moving pretty smoothly on our kill attempt. Grats to Awastine on his tier and Parachuté on his healy trinket. This encounter was universally enjoyed, except perhaps by Karanlos (druid tank) who could be heard whimpering frequently during Flame's orders Smile. Looking forward to seeing BoT on heroic next week (well, seeing the floor up close and personal in the wipe position anyway). Good job all.

Cho'gall parse can be seen here, no council parse sadly (without Mybad we are nothing).
